How to Measure a Suit: Complete Guide
Accurate measurements are the foundation of a well-fitting suit. To get the best fit, you need to measure several key areas of your body. Here's a step-by-step guide:
Chest measurement
To measure your chest, wrap the tape measure around the widest part of your chest and shoulder blades. Keep the tape horizontal and tight, but not too tight. Take a deep breath and make sure the tape doesn't tighten.Waist measurementMeasure around your natural waist, which is usually just above your navel. Don't suck in your stomach; the band should be snug but not cut into your skin.
Shoulder measurement
Measure across your back from the tip of one shoulder to the tip of the other. This measurement ensures that the jacket fits properly over the shoulders without pulling or sagging.
Jacket length
Measure from the top of the shoulder down to the point where you want the jacket to end. For a classic look, the jacket should cover your backside.
Sleeve length
Start from the shoulder seam and measure down to the wrist. The sleeve should end where your wrist meets your hand and allow about one centimeter of the shirt cuff to show.
Trouser Waist and Length
Measure around your waist where you usually wear your trousers. For the length, measure from the waist down to the desired length. The standardized trouser length allows a slight crease over the shoe.
